Ryeqo® Now Available in New Zealand: What You Need to Know
I’m pleased to share that Ryeqo® - a once-daily oral treatment for fibroid-related symptoms and moderate to severe endometriosis-associated pain - is now available in Aotearoa New Zealand. This provides a valuable new option for women seeking non-surgical, effective symptom management.
What is Ryeqo?
Ryeqo is a single daily tablet combining:
Relugolix (a GnRH antagonist)
Oestradiol
Norethisterone acetate
Together, these medications reduce heavy menstrual bleeding and pelvic pain, while protecting bone density and reducing hormonal side effects commonly seen with older GnRH therapies.
How does it work?
Ryeqo gently suppresses ovarian hormone production, which:
reduces bleeding caused by fibroids
improves endometriosis-related pain
helps stabilise symptoms across the menstrual cycle
The added oestradiol and norethisterone ensure hormone levels remain balanced, making treatment more tolerable.
Who might benefit from Ryeqo?
Ryeqo may be a good option for:
Women with heavy menstrual bleeding due to uterine fibroids
Women with endometriosis-associated pelvic pain
Those wanting a non-surgical or fertility-preserving option
People who prefer a daily tablet over injections or surgery
Women who have tried other medical treatments without adequate relief
Suitability depends on individual medical history, so a consultation is essential.
What improvements can patients expect?
Many patients experience:
Significant reduction in bleeding volume
Reduction in pelvic pain
Improved daily functioning and quality of life
Fewer flare-ups and less need for additional medication
Benefits usually begin within the first few months of treatment.
